…the Royal Mail Door Drop people.

When delivering to the Royal Mail on behalf of customer, we always have to give our suppliers implicit instructions as to how to present the goods. They have to be booked in for delivery in advance, they have to be labelled in a certain way and in boxes of no more than 10KG. I had a response from a customer yesterday that they had contact from the receiving centre to say they had a “rework” charge notification. Normally they charge £100 for such a rework, but on this occasion they would waive the charge. The reason for the email? A report that a box weighed in at 10.008Kg – yep that’s 8 grams, approx 1 sheet of paper. It probably means there was too much packing tape or something.

Now, you could say that rules are rules… but in these days of competition and having to fight for whatever work we can get (including the Royal Mail), you would think someone would have the forethought not to send that email. All it is likely to achieve is an upset customer, and some bad publicity

Wow, I can’t believe its been a month since my last blog post.

At the end of each month, the team at SR Print Management have a quick vote on what project to give to ( via www.B1G1.com ). This month, we decided to give a donation towards Marmite Sandwiches to the charity Community Chest of South Africa. They state “Marmite is a nutritious savoury spread made from brewer’s yeast, packed with B-vitamins. This helps put a smear of cheer on a slice of bread and a smile on a child.”

Our donations each month are based on the orders received in each month, therefore – a huge Thank You to our clients who spent with us in November.

Tree-planting and vermiculture programs promote environmental awareness and sustainable agricultural practices. Each month, SRPM donates to the various different projects listed on the B1G1 website based on the transactions during the month. It amazes me each month how such a small amount can make a huge difference. For more information you can visit their website listed above, or continue to give SRPM work in the knowledge that when you do, you will be doing your little bit too.

Watch this space for updates each month.

Firstly, I would like to point out that I have blogged about this subject before. But it has happened again this week, and I find it amazing that printers can be that silly.

We have lots of lovely suppliers at SRPM, and of course lots more who wish to be suppliers. On our website, in the supplier section it clearly says “…we would ask that you only contact us by post…” there is a reason for this, we want to see how good their printing is! Despite this, we get loads of phone calls (first fail – not able to follow instruction). The second huge fail, is when I point out that I would like them to send something in the post (as it says on the website), I get asked (time and again) “Can I email you our brochure?” – NO! you bloody well cannot! You are a printing company, send me something printed!

At SR Print Management, we are as guilty as anyone of using email, online ordering and our website. These things form an integral part of most people’s business these days, and we understand that. However, when it comes to “selling” our services to potential new customers, we use brochures, we use flyers and when it comes to Christmas – we will send Christmas cards. I see this as essential, after all, if we don’t use the printed medium, then why should we expect others to?

The one this week asking if they could email me a brochure was…. A direct mail company! Why would you do that?

Over the past week or so, we have produced several print jobs which were then all shipped to Singapore on behalf of a client – all of which needed to arrive on Monday for a conference. Imagine our surprise when on Thursday, we got a call to say there was one more job that needed to be delivered, again in time for the conference. The artwork came to us on Friday morning, the job was digitally printed and despatched by UPS on Friday – and arrive in Singapore on Monday before 10:00am. Not much room for error with that one… good job there were no flight delays!

This is the kind of thing we do quite regularly now, if you have a challenge – why not give us a call. If it’s physically possible, we usually manage.
